The Science of Good Deeds

As I reunite with my various past lives on Facebook – one thing that I always hear from friends and acquaintances is that they had no idea of my childhood challenges because I was always smiling. Although there were sad points in my life, I had the ability to plan for the future while living in the happiness of a moment. I also felt good when people told me that I made a difference in their lives. It wasn’t the big things that would make the front page of the newsstands—it was the little things that made a big impact one heart at a time.

Now everyone one knows my secret—there is scientific proof that good deeds bring happiness. I often felt embarrassed (and guilty) when a person showed so much gratitude over an act of kindness. Why? Because I felt that I was getting far more than I was giving. When the simple kindness of my heart impacted someone … I felt happy … I felt worthy … I felt I was giving back for all the things I have gotten. God had private ways of blessing me. It made me focus on the positive and not the negative.

My ability to see my many blessings along with the guilty pleasures that kindness bring, has made me one happy camper. Yes, I have bad days but the good moments far outweigh the bad. I scoff at the thinking why me (in a bad way) … sometimes I think “Oh! Why me?” Why am I so fortunate? Why have I figured out that happiness (and sadness) comes from within while others still struggle with figuring that out? I may not have riches and I may have my share of challenges … but above all, I have many blessings … one of which is happiness. So, if you want to have a good day, do something good today! Doing good deeds brings good things (one of which is happiness).
